This is an argument I hear all the time. "Those fags do nothing but sleep around! This articles says that fags have sex with at least 100 people a year!"
Like everything else that people use to justify their prejudiced opinions, these "facts" are more akin to lies.
For example, from a "Catholic Education Site":
"A far-ranging study of homosexual men published in 1978 revealed that 75 percent of self-identified, white, gay men admitted to having sex with more than 100 different males in their lifetime: 15 percent claimed 100-249 sex partners; 17 percent claimed 250- 499; 15 percent claimed 500-999; and 28 percent claimed more than 1,000 lifetime male sex partners." http://www.catholiceducation.org/articles/homosexuality/ho0075.html#04
1978, people. 1978. Anyone who has ever studied at university knows that the legitimacy of articles goes down with age - unless your're studying ancient history, then the general rule is within 5 years, definately no more then 10. 1978 was 32 years ago. Within the last 32 years we have seen so much change in the way that our society views alternate sexualities.Before 2003, homosexuality was still illegal in parts of the United states. It is still illegal in many countries, and even punishable by death in some.
So how reliable and un-biased do you think an article on homosexuality written 32 years ago would be? Just like all other texts (such as the bible) such an article would need to be looked at based on its historical setting.
And on another note... I'd love to see the studies on promiscuity and straight males. Seems to me, if a straight male managed to collect 1000 names and numbers in his little black book, they'd build him a shrine.
But gay men? Women? No way. If you're not monogamous, you're a dirty, dirty whore.
